Washington DC is the US Capital. It is named after George Washington, the first President of the United States. It was formerly the District of Columbia, commonly referred to as DC. The city is located on the Potomac River, bordering the states of Maryland and Virginia. It is the home of the federal government`s three branches, the Capitol, Whitehouse and the Supreme court, as well as monuments, iconic museums and performing arts venues such as the Kennedy Centre.
